What was the problem?

The internal IT organization of one the largest professional services firms asked us to help build a custom sales dashboard to view key client and portfolio-level financial and operational metrics. The existing sales dashboard was using aging technologies to pull and aggregate sales and revenue data from slow internal systems. Some of these systems were built for data and report processing rather than real time web use, so the existing dashboard was slow.

How we helped?

We joined their team of developers to help architect and build out the services layer with the explicit goal of sub second response times. Our team built out the caching layer to enable storage of data from downstream systems; we also built processes to periodically refresh data from the internal sources as needed, including real time data from their enterprise service bus. Furthermore we built complex business logic to do financial calculations, real time currency conversion and helped set the standard for modern single page applications within the group.

What were some of the tools used?

The application was built using Web API and .NET OData web services surfacing 10+ internal data sources. To implement the caching layer we used ElasticSearch and leveraged its ability to store large amounts of unstructured data and aggregate it at considerable speeds. We also wrote Java plugins for ElasticSearch to deal with currency conversion and other computations prior to aggregation at the caching layer. The front end was written in Angular.

What were the results?

Our team worked on the project expanding the feature set and user base for 2.5 years helping establish it as a reference architecture for modern single page applications within the organization.

What was the problem?

A manufacturer of flavors for the food and beverage industry needed insight into sales and product performance across the enterprise. There was no consolidated platform to help them make data driven decisions.

How we helped?

The One Six team helped the client pick a technology platform that would address their requirements but also provide long term flexibility in a low cost, low maintenance platform.  We worked with the executive team to formulate a set of KPI’s to measure business performance and set a direction for the data integration strategy and analytics platform selection.

What were some of the tools used?

Our team implemented a Microsoft SQL Azure based Data Warehouse to provide a single platform for product and sales analytics. Data was integrated from custom ERP platforms, Excel and HubSpot CRM leveraging Azure Data Factory v2 and SSIS on Azure.  Azure Blob storage and Azure Automation were used for automating the data loads. Reports and Dashboards were developed with Tableau Online for leadership reporting.

What were the results?

Our client was now able to use a single platform to engage with their enterprise product and sales data. They no longer had different reports in different systems with silos of information. The sales teams were better able to target their best customers for upsell and resell opportunities and the product teams were able to understand which products were performing best in the market.

What was the problem?

A large pharmaceutical manufacturer asked One Six Solutions to aid in the architecture and development of their next generation diagnostics and clinical testing instruments. We were asked to write the communication layer for testing and result transmission to other clinical systems, as well as help prepare the system for launch.

How we helped?

The client’s clinical testing device connects to other systems and transmits data using Google Protocol Buffers and health care specific protocols (ex. Health Level 7). We built the communication layer to transmit data based on internal events, as well as deal with incoming messages, errors, connectivity issues etc. We also conducted code reviews, fixed bugs across the system, and documented issues visible to the FDA certification process. We worked closely with different parts of their existing teams that wrote embedded code, clinical testing logic and third party simulators, communicating to them design requirements, existing bugs etc.

What were some of the tools used?

The application was built in Windows Communication Framework (WCF) with a Windows Presentation Framework (WPF) frontend; it communicated with backend third party systems and hardware using Google Protocol Buffers, HL7 and ASTM. The database access layer was written using LLBLGen and Unit Tests were written in NUnit and Moq.

What were the results?

The clinical testing device is in its final stages of FDA certification and is able to communicate successfully with third party devices. We are currently working on post launch features to integrate more devices and orchestrate test samples being mechanically delivered to the product.
